In order to measure the distance in between two items in a design, these are the steps required to follow. This can be applied while in Plan or Elevation view. It is a very helpful method of knowing a distance and it's used in the same way a planner would use a physical measuring tool such as a measuring tape.
1) While in Plan or Elevation view, click on the Measure button found in the Home tab.
2) Determine the spot to be measured from by hovering on the area once with the mouse. This will place a small green square around the 'from' point.
3) After having clicked to have a starting point of measurement, simply bring the mouse cursor to the point being measured to. Please note, do not hold the buttons on the mouse when doing this. The 'to' point will now be indicated with a green square, as had been the 'from' point earlier. The calculated measured area can be noticed in the Length field if the Catalogue Browser is active, or at the very bottom of your planning screen. See the example below.
Note:
-Holding the Shift key on the keyboard while moving the mouse and measuring will allow travel 45 degrees, given the direction the mouse is moved.
-Pressing the Esc on the keyboard while in the measuring mode will allow the user to exit it.
