How to Use the Database Utility Tool in 2020 Fusion

My database needs to be updated, converted, repaired, etc.

Solution

The Database Utility Tool is a program that is included in 2020 Fusion. You can find it in 2020 Fusion's program folder. It can resolve the majority of issues that occur with your database.
 

Version 8 and above

Here are instructions on how to use the Database Utility Tool:

1. Right click on 2020 Fusion’s shortcut and select Open File Location.

2. Alternatively, you can open up a Windows explorer window and browse to 2020 Fusion's default location, which should be C:\Program Files\Fusion or C:\Program Files (x86)\Fusion

3. Find the executable called DatabaseUtilityTool

4. Double-click it with the mouse and the below window will appear.
   

5. Select the action required to perform by clicking the radio appropriate radio button.

6. Select OK to accept the appropriate action required and a similar window will appear.  Once the action is fully performed the window will close.

Version 7 and below

In order to use the database utility tool, you must add a command at the end of its shortcut target.

Tip: If your database is located on a network drive, make sure all other users exit 2020 Fusion before you do the following steps. If possible, it is also better to do any database work on the PC that is hosting the database, rather than run the steps below on a PC remotely connecting to the database.

Here are instructions on how to use the Database Utility Tool:

1. Right click on 2020 Fusion’s shortcut and select Open File Location.

2. Alternatively, you can open up a Windows explorer window and browse to 2020 Fusion's default location, which should be C:\Program Files\Fusion or C:\Program Files (x86)\Fusion

3. Find the executable called DatabaseUtilityTool

4. Right click on it.

5. Select Send to... and then Desktop (Create shortcut).

6. Go to your desktop.

7. Find the shortcut, which should be called DatabaseUtilityTool - Shortcut

8. Right click on the shortcut.

9. Select Properties.

10. Please observe: the Target of the shortcut should be something like this: "C:\Program Files\Fusion\DatabaseUtilityTool.exe". We need to add a space at the end of the target, and include a command. Common commands will be listed further down this article - for now, we're going to add "-u" to the shortcut's target. If done correctly, your target should now read "C:\Program Files\Fusion\DatabaseUtilityTool.exe" -U

11. Click on OK to exit the Properties window, and then right click on the shortcut once more.

12. Select Cut.

13. Browse to your database's location. Please see this knowledge center article if you are unsure how to do so. Follow the solution's steps from 1 to 4.

14. Once you have found your database's location, right click the folder and select Paste.

15. You must now drag & drop your database on the Database Utility Tool's shortcut. In order to do so, click once firmly on your database. Hold the click down. Drag your mouse until the database's icon is above the Database Utility Tool's icon. Release your click. It should look something like this: 

• -U = Updates your database to the Database Utility Tool's version.
• -RI = Repairs any wear and tear that the database might have sustained.
• -C = Compresses the database, if possible.
• -B = Performs a database backup.
